The story

A corrupt cop and a serial killer obsessed with a psychopath from the '60s get caught up in a ruthless cat-and-mouse game.

What it’s like

Gritty, sweat-slicked Mumbai rendered in grimy, high-contrast digital images: sodium-orange streetlight, flickering tube-light interiors, the wet glare of concrete slum lanes and the murky green-brown of cramped flats. Camera work is restless and close, with handheld pushes into faces, sudden snap-zooms and disorienting jump cuts, while the soundtrack swings between jazzy 1960s lounge cues and pulsing, unsettling electronic drones. The vibe is feverish, sleazy and bleakly darkly comic, a dread-soaked noir that feels like a hot, sleepless night spent in a fluorescent-lit city. Pacing is jittery and escalating, built around a corrupt cop and a drug-addled killer slowly mirroring and corrupting one another. Intensity is high: frequent, sudden and often graphic violence, brutal killings shown on screen, heavy drug use, profanity, sexual content and cruelty, with the menace landing hard and personal. Not for anyone wanting gentleness or comfort. Best suited to viewers who enjoy unsettling, stylised crime thrillers, dark character studies of moral collapse, and the nervy energy of hard-edged Indian cinema.
