The story

In Thailand, ex-Green Beret John James Rambo joins a group of mercenaries to venture into war-torn neighboring Myanmar to rescue a group of Christian aid workers who have been kidnapped by a ruthless local infantry unit.

What it’s like

Gritty, saturated jungle and river imagery dominates: sweat-slick close-ups, muddy water churning under overcast skies, and rain-soaked green canopy that turns the frame murky and brown-tinged. The camera is handheld and abrasive in the combat sequences, with quick cuts and shaky framing, while quieter passages hold on weathered faces and blood-smeared landscapes. The score is a driving, percussive mix of drums and synth pulse that swells under the fights and drops to ambient hum between them. The vibe is grim, harsh and punishing, a sun-bleached and blood-soaked kind of endurance. Pacing is lean and relentless, with little downtime between escalating skirmishes. Violence is extreme and graphic: bodies are torn apart, gunfire is brutal and frequent, and there is sustained gore and cruelty toward civilians. Emotional register stays hard and stoic, following a grizzled loner who reluctantly takes up the fight. Best for viewers who want unflinching, visceral action and don't mind graphic brutality, not for anyone seeking gentleness.
