The story

This trilogy of Ratchet & Clank classics contains Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal – all remastered in 1080p with additional upgrades such as Trophy and 3D support.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated sci-fi worlds with cartoonish proportions: alien skies in candy oranges and teal, gleaming metal cities, lush jungles and sleek industrial moons, all rendered crisply in 1080p with clean edges and bouncy, exaggerated animation. The camera follows the action from behind in fluid third-person swoops, and the soundtrack leans on jaunty orchestral and synth cues that loop cheerfully under the constant clatter of gadget fire and bolt pickups. The feel is playful and kinetic, with a light, wisecracking warmth between its mechanic-hero and robot sidekick and an easy rhythm of platforming, exploration and absurd weaponry. Violence is constant but cartoonish, with explosions, robot enemies and comic deaths rather than gore; the tone stays breezy and never frightening. It suits a weekend afternoon on the couch, a handheld session on a commute, or a nostalgic replay, and fits players who enjoy colourful action, inventive toys and bite-sized levels with a gentle, humorous edge.
