The story
Jen's romantic getaway with her wealthy married boyfriend is disrupted when his friends arrive for an impromptu hunting trip. Tension mounts at the house until the situation culminates in an unexpected way.
What it’s like
Saturated desert light and hard primary colour: a sun-bleached Moroccan-style canyon, flame-orange rock, ultramarine pools, pink and red interiors lit like a fashion spread. Fargeat frames everything with bold, graphic symmetry and slow lingering close-ups, then cuts abruptly into fast handheld chase work and gritty, practical gore that is splashed across the frame in bright, glossy red. Sound moves from humid ambient hush to thudding electronic pulse and sharp, ringing silence after impact. The vibe is glossy, feverish and brutal: sun-drenched dread with a dark comic edge, the kind of thing that plays like a nightmare rendered in advertising colour. Violence is explicit and frequent, including a sexual assault, graphic bodily injury, gunshot wounds, a fall and drowning, and sustained gore in the final act; it is the opposite of gentle. The arc follows a woman who is betrayed and refuses to stay a victim, becoming ferociously physical and single-minded. Best for viewers who enjoy stylised, genre-bending revenge cinema and can stomach extreme violence, not for anyone wanting something soft or low-stakes.
