The story
Billionaire heir Richie Rich has it all, including Reggie Jackson as a batting coach and Claudia Schiffer as a personal trainer -- but no playmates. What's more, scoundrel Laurence Van Dough is scheming to take over the family empire. Uh-oh! Enter faithful butler Cadbury to save the day.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated studio comedy with the glossy, overlit look of mid-nineties family films: mansion interiors in warm lamplight and sunny daytime exteriors, bold primary colours in costumes and set dressing, and a tidy symmetrical framing that keeps every gag readable at a glance. The soundtrack leans on cheerful pop-orchestral cues and bouncy slapstick stingers, with no real quiet moments. The vibe is playful, cartoonish and warm, a little cushioned and very low-stakes, the sort of film that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a sick-day couch rewatch, or something on in the background while tidying up. Pacing is brisk and sketch-like, with a lonely rich boy slowly learning that friendship matters more than things, and an overbearing villain who is easy to boo. Intensity is mild: there is some pratfall physical comedy and a few cartoonish threats, but no real violence, no gore, no sexual content, and nothing frightening. It is gentle, family-friendly fun for children and for adults who want an undemanding, feel-good comedy with a clean, uncomplicated heart.
