The story
Jhoomri and her husband, Bhimsha, move into a new neighbourhood. Their immediate neighbours are three squabbling couples, namely Vijay and Anjali who are newly married; Appu Khote and Vimla, who are married and have 4 children; and Ravi and Meena, who are also married and have one child. With their wages unable to keep up with inflation and high cost of living, unable to pay even rent to the landlord, B.K. Kakkad, the wives decide to seek employment to augment their income, with hilarious results from their spouses, who will go to any extent to keep their wives at home, even if means to bring a dancing girl home to cook and look after the children!!
What it’s like
Bright, saturated studio colour and busy, crowded frames of a shared residential building, with rooms full of laundry, bickering neighbours and kids underfoot, all lit evenly and warmly in the way of early-2000s Bollywood comedies. The camera moves briskly between sitcom-style domestic set-ups, and the rhythm lifts into song-and-dance interludes with bright, percussive music that breaks up the scenes. The vibe is light, chaotic and affectionate: a cheerful, low-stakes comedy that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a family movie night, or something to keep on while doing chores. Its humour leans on broad physical slapstick, exaggerated reactions and mistaken-identity mix-ups, with the tone staying gently teasing rather than cutting. Money worries and marital squabbles appear as sources of comic friction, resolved through goodwill and reconciliation. The intensity is mild: no real violence or gore, and any tension is quickly defused by a pratfall or a punchline. It is for people who want a cheerful, silly, music-filled comedy with a warm, familial heart.
