The story
As his wedding day approaches, Ben heads to Miami with his soon-to-be brother-in-law James to bring down a drug dealer who's supplying the dealers of Atlanta with product.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated Miami daylight does most of the work here: sun-bleached beachfront streets, pastel hotel lobbies, palm-lined boulevards, and the glossy, evenly lit digital look of a studio comedy that rarely lets shadows get serious. Camera work is conventional and kinetic, with quick cuts, two-shot reactions framed for the leads' bickering, and bursts of car chases and gunfire staged in wide, clean, easy-to-follow frames. The score is a loud pop-and-hip-hop mix that keeps the energy up, and the rhythm is brisk, built on rapid back-and-forth banter between the leads. The emotional register is light and goofy, a cheerful misadventure with a hint of sweetness in the will-they-won't-they warmth between two odd-couple partners. Intensity is moderate: action sequences involve gunfire, explosions and car crashes, with some fistfights and crude jokes and some sexual innuendo, but little gore and no real cruelty; the danger is cartoonish and it never lingers. Suited to a lazy weekend afternoon, a background watch, or a comfort rewatch for people who want a buddy comedy with loud sets, easy laughs and no real dread.
