The story

Markus returns home to care for his daughter when his wife dies in a tragic train accident. However, when a survivor of the wreck surfaces and claims foul play, Markus suspects his wife was murdered and embarks on a mission to find those responsible.

What it’s like

Cold Danish winter light, grey skies over flat snowy fields, and a palette of muted blues, greys and wet asphalt that makes every interior feel close and slightly sour. Anders Thomas Jensen's camera stays mostly steady and composed, letting awkward, deadpan exchanges play out in full frame, then breaks into sudden handheld chaos and hard, abrupt cuts when violence arrives. The score mixes sparse strings with dissonant, pulsing electronic lines that nudge the tension upward. Vibe: dark comedy with a grieving undertow, bleak but oddly warm, suited to a late night alone or a moody weekend when you want something sharp rather than soothing. Violence is real and often sudden: shootings and brutal hand-to-hand fights, with blood and bodily harm shown plainly, though the tone stays wry and absurd rather than gratuitous. Themes of grief, revenge and an awkward father-daughter bond drive the emotional core. Made for viewers who enjoy Scandinavian dark humour, unusual action films, and stories where the nerdy and the broken find an odd kind of family.
