The story
In the crumbling ruins of a world under siege, man-machine meets machine-man as legendary cyborgs clash to decide the fate of the Earth. As Robocop, you must travel across time into a bloody future ruled by the mechanical forces of Skynet. You'll face attack from every angle, every moment. An unwavering army of Terminators, robotic dogs, spiders, Endoskeletons and a relentless arsenal of automated weapons await you in this veritable hell on earth. To destroy this enemy, free its hostages and finally pierce the dark heart of a killer computer. It will take something more powerful than plasma rifles and laser guns: the human mind that still burns within you.
What it’s like
Grimy, low-resolution sprites on a dim palette of rust, ash grey and sickly green, with the Genesis's hard pixel edges and chunky side-on framing giving every corridor and ruined street a cramped, claustrophobic weight. The mood is bleak and mechanical: sparse electronic stingers, heavy footfalls, the wet crack of gunfire and the whine of enemy servos carrying most of the atmosphere, with long stretches of ruined silence between ambushes. Its vibe is grim, relentless and blood-soaked, closer to a late-night grind than a relaxed session, and it suits a solo sitting where you are willing to die often and try again. Pacing is punishing and side-scrolling-brisk, the arc is one hard-bitten cop reclaiming his humanity against machines that never let up, and the violence is extreme: frequent gore, bloody kills and brutal enemy deaths, with heavy peril throughout and no gentle moments. It is for players who enjoy old-school, unforgiving action-platformers, cyberpunk apocalypse settings and the gritty pulp of 1990s licensed tie-ins.
