The story

When a poor college student who cracks an online poker game goes bust, he arranges a face-to-face with the man he thinks cheated him, a sly offshore entrepreneur.

What it’s like

Glossy, sun-saturated digital imagery: Puerto Rico rendered in hot turquoise water, pale stucco villas, and the cool blue glow of laptop screens against dark bedroom walls. Camera work is smooth and mobile, with lots of tracking shots through resort lobbies and polished glass offices, and the casino floors are awash in gold and red neon. The sound is a slick pop-and-electronic score that keeps a steady pulse under the card-table tension, with the click of chips and the hush of high-stakes rooms giving the pauses their edge. Vibe: sleek, sun-drenched unease, a kind of tropical noir with the gloss turned up. It suits a late-night watch with a drink in hand or a lazy weekend when you want something slick and twisty without much heaviness. The pacing is brisk and talky, and the emotional register stays wry and a bit cynical; its central arc follows a broke young gambler getting pulled into a dangerous partnership and slowly losing his naivety. Violence is present and occasionally sharp, with some threats and a few brief, abrupt confrontations, but no gore and little sustained brutality. Sexual content is light. It is for people who enjoy caper-style crime thrillers, morally slippery characters, and polished, glamorous settings.
