The story
In one of the poorest areas of Paris, a school counselor devotes herself to working with disadvantaged students, while facing challenges of her own.
What it’s like
Handheld camera that stays close to faces, moving through school corridors under flat fluorescent strip-light and out into bright, washed-out courtyards and concrete estates on the edge of Paris. The palette runs to cool greys and institutional beige, warmed by the sunlight and the colour of students' clothes, and the sound is mostly human: overlapping voices, slammed doors, bells, and a rhythmic hip-hop-inflected score that enters during transitions. The mood is brisk, warm and quick-witted, with comedy arising from banter and small rebellions, while an undercurrent of worry runs beneath each scene. Pacing is episodic and energetic, following one school counsellor's long days from one crisis to the next, and the emotional register moves between laughter and fatigue. Its people are shaped by care and compromise, a dedicated adult slowly learning what she can and cannot fix. Violence is limited to scuffles, shouting and tense confrontations, with no gore and little sexual content. It suits a weekday evening or a conversation-starting watch, and it will appeal to viewers who want socially grounded drama with humour and heart.
