The story
A catholic French couple sees their life upside down when their four daughters get married to men of different religion and origins.
What it’s like
Bright, flat daylight and wide, conventional framings of a bourgeois French household, with the camera settling into family kitchens, drawing rooms and church and synagogue interiors while the comedy plays out in the blocking. The palette is warm and sunny, with pastel wedding decor, rich food and summer-lit gardens, and the sound is a busy mix of overlapping dialogue, cheerful pop and easy background music that keeps the energy up. The vibe is broad, bright and good-humoured: a farce of cultural mix-ups that never tips into cruelty. Pacing is brisk, with scenes cutting quickly from one clash to the next, and the emotional register stays amused and affectionate. The arc follows a conservative father slowly having to rethink his assumptions as his daughters and their husbands win him over. Intensity is low: plenty of verbal sparring and ethnic-stereotype jokes, some mild crude humour, no real violence, no gore and no sustained sexual content. It suits a relaxed weekend evening or a comfort watch with friends, and fits viewers who want an easygoing, laugh-out-loud family comedy.
