The story
When Clary Fray's mother has disappeared, Clary joins a band of Shadowhunters; demon killing hunters, and gets caught up in a plan to save the world.
What it’s like
Glossy, saturated night-time Vancouver-style city streets lit by neon signs, sodium streetlamps and the cold blue of a warlock's glow, with runes flaring in bright gold and silver across skin and weapons. The camera stays busy: quick handheld moves through club interiors, fast cuts in fight sequences, and tidy, glamorous close-ups in candlelit loft apartments and gothic institutional halls. Music leans on pulsing electronic and rock-tinged cues, with the drama swelling into big orchestral beats at reveals. The vibe is brooding teen-romance fantasy with a bit of camp, suited to a Friday night, a comfort rewatch, or something to half-watch while doing something else. Action is frequent but stylized: demons and vampires are slashed and blasted in bright bursts of light and dark-ichor spatter, with a few moderately gory moments and some scary creature design, though nothing unrelentingly grim. Relationships are central, with frequent romance and betrayal, and the tone is earnest and melodramatic rather than dark. It is for viewers who enjoy urban fantasy with a young adult edge, big found-family loyalties, and a steady stream of supernatural spectacle.
