The story

Set in 1990s Lonpur, Bengal, “Shekhar Home” combines suspense & comedy as eccentric Shekhar and his new housemate Jayavrat solve a variety of cases while interacting with a vibrant cast of characters in a charming, pre-technology era.

What it’s like

Warm, slightly dry, with a playful edge of suspense: the feel of a small Bengali town in the 1990s, where life moves at a neighbourly pace and nobody has a phone to check. The mood shifts between quiet domestic scenes and the brisk tension of a case, with humour carrying much of the weight. The pacing is episodic, so each mystery unfolds in a contained stretch and the lighter daily textures of the household fill the gaps. The emotional register is affectionate and wry, following an odd, brilliant loner and the younger man who ends up sharing his home, with their odd-couple rapport growing steadily over time. Crime stakes are present but handled through talk, deduction and character rather than graphic violence, so it reads as gentle-to-moderate intensity, with suspense more than gore. It suits a lazy weekend, a comfort rewatch, or an evening when you want a clever puzzle with company rather than dread. It is for viewers who enjoy eccentric detective pairings, regional settings, and crime stories that linger on personality as much as on the solution.
