The story

Millennials experience first love and discover their emerging identities in this teen drama told partly through texts, chats and social media posts.

What it’s like

Handheld, close-in camerawork keeps Rome's teenagers at arm's length in the way a phone screen does: lots of over-the-shoulder shots, bedroom and classroom interiors lit by flat daylight, and sun-bleached Roman streets and scooter rides that feel warm and unhurried. Chat messages and social posts flash across the frame in bright, clean graphics, so the whole show has the texture of a group chat that suddenly has a camera in it. The score is sparse, mostly soft piano and pop-leaning indie that swells at confessions and drops out for long, awkward silences. The vibe is tender, anxious and intimate, the mood of a late-night scroll through feelings you're not ready to name. Episodes are short and tightly paced, with each season following a different teen through a school year of crushes, friendships, and coming out. The emotional register is earnest and raw without being cynical, and the arcs trace young people slowly finding the words for who they are. Intensity is low: some sexual content and kissing, a few emotionally harrowing scenes involving bullying and family conflict, but no gore and no real violence. It suits anyone who wants a warm, talkative, character-driven drama for a binge on a quiet weekend, and fans of coming-of-age stories that take adolescent feelings seriously.
