The story
In the 1965 Indo-Pak War, India faces a devastating surprise attack. Wing Commander Ahuja leads a retaliatory strike, but Squadron Leader Vijaya goes missing after a heroic solo engagement against a superior enemy jet. Ahuja spends 23 years seeking the truth and uncovering a cover-up.
What it’s like
Big-scale aerial action shot with a warm, gritty, period-costume glow: sun-bleached Indian and Pakistani airbases, dusty tarmacs, hangar interiors lit by hard overhead bulbs, and cockpit sequences framed tight on sweating faces and instrument panels. Dogfights are handled with kinetic, roving camera work and a rush of engine roar, while quieter scenes lean on long dialogue takes in dim offices and smoky rooms, the palette tilting toward ochre, khaki and steel blue. The score swells with brass and percussion during the sorties and drops to sparse strings in the reflective passages. Pacing alternates between adrenaline bursts and slower, procedural stretches as a pilot's decades-long hunt for the truth unfolds. Violence is combat-based: air-to-air gunfire and crashes, with some blood and death on screen but no gore for its own sake. The emotional register is earnest and patriotic, with grief, loyalty and institutional betrayal carrying the arcs of a steadfast officer and a fellow flyer who must reckon with what was hidden. Suited to viewers who want a sweeping, true-story war epic with a strong sense of duty, and less suited to anyone seeking something gentle or low-stakes.
