The story

Split Fiction is a 2025 cooperative multiplayer game. It follows two writers, Mio Hudson and Zoe Foster, as they become trapped in their imaginations.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated worlds that swing between candy-coloured fantasy and grey, rain-streaked sci-fi, with the camera often pulled close over two characters at once and the screen splitting in shifting ways to keep both in view. The art direction leans on painterly dragons, sun-warmed meadows, gleaming tech corridors and a constant play of genre costume, so each level feels like a fresh set. The soundtrack is lively and orchestral with playful percussion, and the sound design rewards fidgeting with mechanics, with clear, chunky feedback when a switch clicks or a wall gives way. Vibe: busy, warm and cheerfully inventive, a good fit for a Saturday with a friend on the sofa or a shared Steam Deck session. Pacing is brisk, with set pieces and puzzles that change every hour or so, and the emotional register is bantering and affectionate, following two very different collaborators who gradually learn to trust and understand each other. Intensity is low to moderate: cartoonish action and creature fights, some peril and a little mild jump-scare tension, but no gore and nothing graphic. Made for co-op players who want an inventive, talkative adventure they can share with a partner, a sibling or a friend, and for people who like teamwork puzzles more than solo challenge.
