The story

It Takes Two is a cooperative action-adventure game designed exclusively for two players, playable in local split-screen or online. Players control Cody and May, a married couple transformed into dolls, as they travel through fantastical environments based on their home and relationship. Gameplay combines platforming, puzzle-solving, and action sequences, with each level introducing new mechanics and giving the two characters different abilities that must be used together to progress. The game frequently changes its core mechanics from chapter to chapter, incorporating sections involving shooting, racing, flight, and other genres.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated and toy-like, with the look of a handmade diorama: a cramped suburban kitchen rendered in cartoon scale, a garden that turns into a sunlit fairground, a dollhouse full of warm lamplight and cardboard textures. The camera stays close and fluid, split across two screens or following two small figures through big, legible spaces, and the score swings from gentle strings and music-box whimsy to driving pulses when a level turns into a shooter or a race. The mood is cozy and bouncy with real tenderness under the jokes, a warm, low-stakes adventure that keeps finding new tricks and rarely sits still. Gameplay is cooperative and demanding, with timing, puzzles and boss-style sequences that need both players, and violence is cartoonish: characters bonk, shoot and get tossed about, with no gore and no real menace. It suits a rainy weekend with a partner, a sibling or a friend, and feels best played together on a couch. It is made for people who want a playful, emotional shared experience that stays family friendly and keeps surprising them.
