The story
Trine 2: Complete Story is a sidescrolling game of action, puzzles and platforming. Trine 2: Complete Story fully integrates the main campaign of Trine 2 with the Goblin Menace expansion and the unlockable Dwarven Caverns level, combining them into one mighty fairytale.
What it’s like
Painterly fairytale worlds rendered in lush, hand-painted 2.5D: sun-dappled forests, misty ruined castles, glowing crystal caverns and rain-soaked ledges, all layered with depth so the background drifts past like a storybook spread. The palette leans on warm greens, amber and deep blues, with soft bloom on magic and a gentle sheen on water. The soundtrack is a lilting orchestral score with harp and strings, lightly playful and never frantic, and the sound of the world (birdsong, creaking wood, clinking gears) keeps it grounded. Pacing is brisk but unhurried: short physics-driven puzzles where you swap between three characters, a thief, a knight and a wizard, each with their own tools, and the sidescrolling platforming stays forgiving, with plenty of room to experiment. Tone is whimsical and warm, with mild peril and goofy goblin antics but no real menace, and the three companions bicker and bond across the adventure. Intensity is low: fantasy combat against goblins and skeletons, cartoonish rather than gory, with no sexual content and nothing frightening. It suits a rainy weekend, co-op play with a partner on the couch, or a relaxed evening of puzzling for players who want gentle challenge and charm.
