The story
The Trine 2: Director's Cut edition, released at first only for Nintendo's Wii U console, features the original game with the Goblin Menace expansion, alongside the enhanced controls that take advantage of the GamePad controller, as well as an exclusive level called the "Dwarven Caverns".
What it’s like
Storybook fantasy rendered in painterly 2.5D: hand-painted forests, misty ruined castles, glowing crystal caves and sunlit meadows layered in deep parallax, with soft bloom on magic and a warm, slightly fairy-tale palette. The sound leans on lush orchestral strings and gentle woodwind, with chimes and birdsong in the quieter stretches and a bit of comic bounce when the goblins appear. Physics-driven puzzles give it a tactile, playful feel: crates tumble, ropes sway, boxes float on conjured planks, and the three heroes swap control on the fly, so the rhythm is a steady, unhurried loop of experimenting and hopping between ledges. Vibe: cozy, whimsical, low-stakes calm with a touch of adventure. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a couch co-op session with a friend, or a relaxed evening on the Wii U's GamePad. Combat is light and cartoonish, with skeletons and goblins that topple rather than gore; there is no blood and nothing frightening beyond brief spooky moments. Built for players who enjoy thinking through physics puzzles at their own pace, and for anyone who wants a gentle, pretty fantasy world to wander through together.
