The story
Pals Danny and Frank spend the summer after high school working as lifeguards while figuring out their future.
What it’s like
Bright, sun-faded daylight over a working-class summer: beaches, boardwalk stands, and the easy sprawl of an outer-borough neighborhood where everyone seems to know everyone. The mood is a loose, good-natured teen-comedy looseness, with the comedy carried by two friends' banter rather than by any visual flourish. Expect a lightly nostalgic, warm-hearted vibe that suits a sunny weekend afternoon or a relaxed evening when you want something amiable without much tension. The pace is brisk and sitcom-friendly, with scenes built around jokes and mild mishaps, and the emotional arc follows two young men on the edge of adulthood, unsure about college, jobs and what comes next, and slowly getting clearer about it. Intensity is low: the humor is comic rather than cruel, with occasional crude jokes, and there is no real violence, gore or dread. It fits viewers who want a light, funny, feel-good watch about friendship and the last carefree summer before real life starts, and who are happy with a comedy that stays easygoing from start to finish.
