The story
Shinpei Ajiro travels home to attend the funeral of a childhood friend, and finds the remote island plagued by a sinister, supernatural force.
What it’s like
Sun-bleached and humid, with heat shimmer over tin roofs, cicada drone, and a deep blue sea framed by green hills, the animation uses clean cel-style linework and saturated summer color that turns ominous as the light goes long and orange. Night scenes sink into inky blacks, and the shadowy threat is drawn with unsettling stillness, so dread builds through empty streets and wide establishing shots before sharp bursts of action. The score mixes soft piano and ambient strings with pulsing, eerie tension. The overall feel is melancholy summer unease, with a slow, watchful pace that tightens into urgency. Intensity runs moderate to high: there is supernatural horror, frequent threatening attacks, bloody violence, and deaths that land with weight, though the gore is not constant. Grief runs through it, with romance at its edges and a young man slowly confronting loss and a town's buried past. It suits a late-night or rainy-evening watch for people who want atmospheric mystery and a melancholy time-loop feel, not a gentle comfort show.
