The story

Hairi Takahara never expected summer to feel like a dream. Sent to Torishirojima to sort through his late grandmother's belongings, he's met with endless sea, quiet nostalgia, and mysterious girls, each chasing something just out of reach. As he settles into island life, lost memories begin to surface and he finds what he never knew he'd lost.

What it’s like

Sun-bleached and wistful, with a warm summer haze that tips quietly into melancholy. Wide shots of a small island's blue sea, sweeping cloud-heavy skies, and bright cicada-loud afternoons give way to softer, lamplit evenings and dusky ferry crossings, all rendered in clean, painterly anime animation with lush backgrounds and gentle character design. The score leans on airy piano and light strings, with long stretches of ambient island sound: waves, wind through grass, distant voices. Pacing is unhurried, built around everyday rhythms like bicycle rides, shared meals, and drifting conversations, so it suits a lazy summer afternoon, a late-night rewatch, or a quiet stretch alone with the windows open. Its emotional register is bittersweet and nostalgic, shifting toward something aching in its later movement, with supernatural undercurrents that stay soft and dreamlike. Its people are drawn toward a loss they can't quite name, and the arc of the story is about slowly recovering what was forgotten. Romance and tragedy are present, with some emotional heaviness and a few sad, quietly devastating moments; violence is absent and the intensity stays low, though the grief lands. Made for viewers who love melancholy summer stories, slow-burn romance, and the ache of memory.
