The story

Six months ago, Hikaru vanished for a week. Now, as his best friend Yoshiki senses something amiss and confronts him, the harrowing truth emerges.

What it’s like

Bright summer light over a quiet countryside village, with heat haze, cicadas and the stillness of long afternoons, gives way to something uneasy beneath the surface. The animation leans on ordinary rooms, dirt roads and sunlit school corridors, so the familiar setting feels slightly wrong. Sound design carries much of the mood: insect drone, wind through tall grass, and sudden silences that make the next moment feel unsafe. The vibe is wary and melancholic, a sun-bleached unease in which everyday warmth and quiet dread sit side by side. Pacing is measured, with long stretches of teenage conversation and routine that slowly tighten into suspicion. The emotional core is a friendship tested by absence and doubt, as one teenager refuses to accept that his friend is who he appears to be. Intensity is moderate but real: there is an ongoing sense of threat, some disturbing imagery, and violence that arrives sharply and is not played for spectacle. It suits a late-night watch alone or a summer-evening viewing, and fits viewers who like supernatural mystery with a human, grounded core and can tolerate unsettling material.
