The story

Virtua Tennis 2 (known as Tennis 2K2 in North America) is a tennis video game in which players compete to reach the world No. 1 ranking. It features 16 internationally ranked male and female players and supports singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches with up to four participants. The game includes Tournament, Exhibition, and World Tour modes, offering structured competitions and progression systems. Matches focus on core tennis mechanics such as serving, volleys, lobs, and smashes.

What it’s like

Bright, flat arcade colour under open stadium skies: sun-washed hard courts, crowds rendered as soft polygonal blur, and the clean, slightly glossy look of early-2000s 3D sports games. Rallies are played from a pulled-back broadcast angle, so the ball's arc and the players' lunges read clearly, and the cheerful pop of racket strikes and distant applause keeps the sound light and bouncy. The mood is sunny, uncomplicated and easygoing, with a low-stakes, pick-up-and-play rhythm; matches move in short, satisfying bursts, and a tournament run builds steadily rather than tensely. Violence and cruelty are absent, and the only real pressure is the scoreboard. It suits a lazy afternoon, a short evening session with a friend across the couch in split-screen doubles, or nostalgic play on a Dreamcast-era setup. It is for people who want a warm, gentle sports game with a retro sheen and an easy competitive pull.
