What it’s like
Chunky, primary-coloured pixel athletes on flat, bright stadium backdrops, with the sun-drenched cheer of a 1980s arena: sprite-based crowds, big sky-blue skies, and the bleep-and-chime sound of an early home computer, punctuated by stirring anthem fanfares at the opening and awards ceremonies. The vibe is nostalgic and sunny, a bit goofy, with a satisfying mechanical rhythm of joystick waggling, timing presses and rapid button mashing. Each event is a short, self-contained burst (a cycling sprint, a fencing bout, a javelin throw) so sessions move quickly, and the head-to-head modes add a playful rivalry when friends crowd round one keyboard or controller. Tension is light and competitive, never dark: there is no violence, gore or cruelty, only the mild frustration of a missed jump or a wobbling kayak. It suits a rainy afternoon with a friend, a retro-gaming evening, or a quick nostalgic hit between other things, and it will appeal most to people who enjoy old-school arcade sports games and rivalry-driven party play.
