Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The story

After nearly 50 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic influencers who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town.

What it’s like

Harsh, sun-bleached daylight over flat scrub and rusted farm equipment gives way to murky, sweat-soaked interiors lit by sickly practical lamps and flashlight beams. The palette runs dusty ochre, bruised greens and blood red, shot in a mostly handheld, jittery style that keeps the camera close to frightened faces and then snaps wide across empty Texas land. The score leans on droning low-end tones and sudden metallic screeches, with long stretches of wind and insect hum between the attacks. Its vibe is grimy, dread-soaked and relentless, the kind of Halloween-night unease that never lets up. Violence is frequent, graphic and gory, including dismemberment and decapitation, and the bloodshed is played for visceral shock rather than restraint. Sexual content is minimal, but the cruelty toward young characters is harsh and sustained. This suits viewers who want a loud, blood-heavy slasher sequel for a late-night watch with friends, and it is a poor fit for anyone seeking anything gentle.
