The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2

Directed by Tobe Hooper

The story

A radio host is victimised by the notorious cannibal family while a former Texas Marshal hunts them.

What it’s like

Frantic, saturated and deliberately overcooked: hot reds, sickly greens and sodium-yellow night light smear across a Texas that feels more like a fever dream than a place, with rapid zooms, whip pans and a handheld camera that jolts through rooms full of bone and rot. The score is a clattering, synth-stabbed jumble, and the chainsaw is never far from the soundtrack. Its vibe is gleefully unhinged, a slapstick nightmare where dread keeps tipping into laughter. It suits a loud Halloween night with friends, or a late-night watch when you want chaos rather than tension. The pacing is manic, with short bursts of panic and absurd set pieces, and the emotional register is cartoonish rather than mournful; the central figures are a bruised, obsessive radio host and a grizzled vigilante, and their arc is a turn toward furious, bloody retaliation. Intensity is high: heavy gore, graphic chainsaw violence, grisly murder and cannibal imagery, delivered with a dark comedic grin, so it lands as splatter spectacle rather than quiet horror. It is for people who want gory, absurd, over-the-top horror with a sense of humour and no interest in gentleness.
