The story

An island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red, a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck, and the volatile Bomb have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated island colours do most of the work here: sunlit turquoise lagoons, lush green hills, and a village of rounded, candy-glossy huts under a wide blue sky. The animation is clean CGI with a cartoonish, toy-like finish, and the camera moves with brisk, energetic editing, so the picture rarely sits still. The sound is bouncy and comic, with a playful orchestral-pop score, slapstick sound effects, and plenty of loud, cheerful squawking. Its vibe is bright, goofy and warm-hearted, the kind of easy comfort watch that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a family movie night, or a light background pick while tidying up. Pacing is quick and gag-driven, with a tone that stays broad and sunny. Its central figures are a hot-tempered loner learning that his prickly edges can be a strength, and a few misfit friends who find they belong together. Intensity is low: there is cartoon slapstick, explosions and comic peril, plus some bird-on-pig mischief, but no gore, no sexual content and nothing frightening beyond brief, harmless chaos. It is made for families and for anyone wanting something lively, silly and gentle.
