The story
Antibirth is a free fan-made expansion for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. The mod includes new items, characters, enemies, challenges, secrets, and much more! The mod was primarily developed by Kilburn, NotYourSagittarius, and LeatherIceCream, with music by Mudeth.
What it’s like
Crude, hand-drawn sprites sit on flat, saturated basement rooms, with dim reds and sickly greens against black, and every shot is a fixed top-down view of a small cramped chamber. Blood and tears burst in bright, cartoonish splashes, and the bodily horror is grotesque but almost always drawn as a joke. The soundtrack is a grimy blend of chiptune, distorted drones, and pulsing industrial beats that rise and fall with each room. The rhythm is brisk and fidgety: short runs that end abruptly in death, then a restart that you can make faster each time. The vibe is manic, darkly funny and oppressive, a late-night, jittery kind of play that suits short bursts on a laptop. Violence is constant and gory but cartoonish, with frequent deaths, bloody monsters, and disturbing religious and bodily imagery; there is no sexual content. It is far from gentle. It suits players who want dark, absurd roguelike challenge, lots of unlockable oddities, and a grim sense of humour.
