The story

When a body is found on the bridge between Denmark and Sweden, right on the border, Danish inspector Martin Rohde and Swedish Saga Norén have to share jurisdiction and work together to find the killer.

What it’s like

Cold blue-grey light off the water, wide shots of the bridge stretching into flat, washed-out horizons, and interiors lit by hard overhead fluorescents that make offices and mortuaries feel exposed. The palette is muted and nearly colourless, with rain, wet asphalt and overcast skies doing most of the work, and the camera tends to hold on faces and empty corridors rather than cutting for effect. The score is sparse and restrained, so long stretches play on wind, traffic and footsteps. It is a slow-burning, methodical crime series with a clinical, wintry calm and a steady undertow of unease, best suited to a dark evening or a rainy weekend when you want to settle into a long, patient investigation. The leads are an awkward, socially blunt Swedish detective and a warmer Danish colleague who slowly learn to trust each other across a border of rules and habits. Violence is present and sometimes grim, including murder and disturbing sexual crime, but it is shown sparingly and with dread rather than gore. It suits viewers who enjoy Nordic noir's atmosphere and character-driven pacing, and it is not gentle.
