The story

A suburban couple's ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

What it’s like

Cool, desaturated suburban interiors give way to grey highways, motel rooms, and dim safehouses, with a palette of slate blues and muted greens that tightens as the family's situation worsens. The camera stays close and mobile, often handheld during chase and fight scenes, while quieter domestic moments sit back in steadier frames. The score leans on taut strings and low electronic pulses that build tension without overwhelming the dialogue. The action is regular and fairly punchy, with gunfights, vehicle chases, and hand-to-hand clashes; the violence is real but mostly not gory, and there are tense threats and some emotional cruelty. The vibe is anxious, earnest, and family-centred, somewhere between a comic-book thriller and a domestic drama, and it suits a weeknight binge with a bit of tension. Pacing is episodic and propulsive, with each episode ending on a push forward. It suits viewers who want superhero stakes filtered through parents worried for their kids, and people who enjoy a hunted-on-the-run structure with warmth at its centre.
