The story
The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve is the eleventh installment of the Ace Attorney series of text adventure video games. New gameplay mechanics introduced to the series include Dance of Deduction, in which Ryunosuke must deduce mistakes and oversights in Herlock's overboard logic and uncover new facts, and Summation Examination, in which players must point out discrepancies among jurors' arguments to make their defendant's case and ultimately secure a "Not Guilty" verdict.
What it’s like
Crisp, storybook-bright anime art on painted Meiji-era backdrops: smoky Victorian London rendered in warm sepia, gaslit fog, brass-and-steam gadgetry, and rich period costume in a palette of deep maroons, teal and amber. Character portraits snap and bounce with exaggerated expressions, and the camera rarely moves beyond a gentle push-in on a suspect's face or a sudden cut to a close-up of an evidence item. The score leans on jaunty harpsichord-and-brass themes, swelling into tense strings during courtroom reveals, with a sharp, theatrical sound design for every objection and gasp. Its vibe is brainy, playful melodrama: a clever puzzle box with a warm heart and a sly sense of humour. It suits a rainy evening with headphones, a long stretch of unhurried reading, or a weekend session that rewards patience. Pacing is conversational and text-driven, with long stretches of dialogue broken by tense, timed deduction sequences, and the emotional arc follows a bruised young lawyer and his mismatched partner regaining trust and purpose. Intensity is moderate: murder and grief are central, and there is some bloodless, cartoonish violence and frank talk of racial prejudice, but no gore and no sexual content. It is for mystery lovers who enjoy wordplay, quirky ensemble casts and Sherlockian banter.
