The story

Not only is Jessica Spencer the most popular girl in school -- she is also the meanest. But things change for the attractive teen when a freak accident involving a cursed pair of earrings and a chance encounter at a gas station causes her to switch bodies with Clive, a sleazy crook. Jessica, in the form of the repulsive Clive, struggles to adjust to this radical alteration and sets out to get her own body back before the upcoming prom.

What it’s like

Bright, glossy early-2000s suburban comedy: flat daylight, saturated mall-food-court colors, sitcom-style medium shots and quick cuts, with an upbeat guitar-pop soundtrack that never stops moving. The vibe is goofy and sun-washed, a silly nostalgia trip for a lazy weekend afternoon or a comfort rewatch with friends. A popular high schooler, cruel and self-absorbed, swaps bodies with a sleazy crook and has to get herself back before prom, and the arc runs from smug superficiality toward a grudging empathy and friendship. Pacing is brisk and gag-driven, with broad slapstick, body humor and frequent crude sexual innuendo; there is some bullying and profanity, and the peril is comic rather than dark, with no gore. Gentle in spirit, but not a kids' film. Best for people who want loud, dumb, good-natured teen comedy with a warm finish.
