The story

A mermaid from the Joseon period ends up in present-day Seoul, where she crosses paths with a swindler who may have ties to someone from her past.

What it’s like

Bright, glossy modern Seoul in daylight: sunlit apartments, crowded night markets strung with warm bulbs, and a steady palette of sea-blue and seafoam that carries into the mermaid's scenes underwater. Those contrast with softer, sepia-tinted Joseon-era flashbacks, where candlelight and wooden interiors feel hushed and dusty. The camera stays close and handheld for comic bickering, then slows for lingering two-shots on the shore. The score leans on bouncy pop-piano and sweeping string swells that rise at emotional beats. Vibe: warm, whimsical, and sentimental, with a playful undercurrent. It suits a lazy weekend binge, a comfort rewatch, or an evening when you want a long, affectionate rom-com. The pacing is brisk in the comedy and deliberately drawn out in the melodrama, across roughly twenty episodes. Its people move from guardedness toward open tenderness, and the story leans on a long-running sense of waiting and reunion. Intensity is mild: some scuffles, a few peril moments and menacing schemes, light cruelty from antagonists, and kissing, but no gore and little real violence. Made for viewers who love romance, fairy-tale mythology, and a warm-hearted comedy that doesn't mind big emotions.
