The story

In this add-on for The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II it is your goal to lead the great armies of the Witch-King called the Angmar to victory. But there are also other mentionable additions and changes which come with this add-on: All six factions from the main game now have access to new units and heroes like Prince Brand a Dwarven captain or the Uruk Deathbringers on the side of Isengard which are powerful two-handed swords-fighters.

What it’s like

Sweeping battlefield vistas in the washed, storm-grey and ember-orange palette of the Peter Jackson films, with camp fires glowing against dark ridgelines and banners snapping in wind. The camera pulls back to a high overhead view, so armies read as shifting coloured blocks that gradually grind together across muddy valleys and stone bridges. Sound carries most of the atmosphere: rolling drums, brass swells adapted from the film scores, the clang and thud of massed infantry, and the crackle of spells. Fights are stylised rather than graphic, with units falling in quick puffs and sparks, and heroes' duels providing the one moment of close, rough energy. The vibe is focused and absorbing, a mix of tense planning and bursts of chaotic clash, best suited to an evening alone with a headset and a strategy itch, or a co-op session with a friend across a long weekend. Pacing is set by the player: slow resource building and positioning give way to sudden, frantic skirmishes. Intensity is moderate: war and battle-death throughout, mild and bloodless in presentation, with no gore or sexual content. It suits fans of Tolkien and of real-time strategy who enjoy learning unit matchups and commanding large, cinematic battles.
