The story
After an all-night graduation beach party, a group of hung-over students wakes up under the blazing sun to find their numbers somewhat depleted. An enormous alien creature has burrowed down deep and anyone foolish enough to make contact with the sand finds themselves at the mercy of a sea of flesh-eating tentacles. Will they ever be able to escape its carnivorous clutches?
What it’s like
Bright, merciless daylight over an empty stretch of beach, where the sun bleaches the sand until it looks harmless and then starts to move. The mood swings between sun-scorched panic and cheeky black comedy, with a sunburnt, hungover cast who have nowhere to hide from the glare. Expect a creature-feature rhythm: short bursts of escalating peril, quick cuts between people trying to stay out of reach, and a soundtrack of rolling surf and sudden shrieks rather than sustained atmosphere. The tone is scrappy and playful, with gleeful, gory creature attacks rather than slow dread. Violence is frequent and bloody, with flesh-eating scenes played for shock and laughs. Character arcs are light, centred on who is quick-witted enough to survive a group of friends coming apart in the heat. Best for horror-comedy fans who want a loud, silly, gruesome romp for a friends' watch or a rainy night in. Not suited to anyone wanting something gentle or slow-burning.
