The story

Blood and Wine is the second major expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The players will accompany Geralt of Rivia to the region of Toussaint, one of the few places in the Witcher universe which has remained largely untouched by the war. The calm, laid-back atmosphere holds a dark and bloody secret that only the White Wolf can uncover; the expansion features new items for players to collect on their adventure and introduces previously unknown characters.

What it’s like

Golden-hour vineyards and sun-bleached villages make up Toussaint, a land of rolling hills, terracotta rooftops, and hazy late-summer light that feels a world away from the grey, war-scarred roads of the main game. The palette leans warm: ochre stone, deep wine reds, and soft evening blues, with long wide shots of landscape that let the eye wander. Music is gentle and folk-inflected, with lutes and strings drifting under the ambient noise of crickets and market chatter. The pace is unhurried, a slow ramble through festivals, taverns, and quiet country roads, and the mood is warm, low-stakes calm with a faint thread of unease running underneath. Violence is present but comes in bursts; the fights are sharp and bloody, and some scenes turn grim and gory, though the overall tone stays lighter than the base game. Its people are charming and a little mischievous, and the story is about a lonely wanderer briefly sinking into a more ordinary, sunlit life. It suits a lazy weekend, a comfort return to the series, or anyone who wants a summery, open-ended adventure for people who enjoy atmosphere, roaming, and gentle humour.
