The story
A teen in 2024 accidentally time-travels to 2003, days before a masked killer murders her sister. Can she change the past without destroying the future?
What it’s like
Bright, saturated suburban daylight and glossy, candy-coloured 2000s set dressing: flip phones, butterfly clips, pastel bedrooms and cheerful Californian streets that look just a little too sunny for the danger underneath. The camera stays busy and playful, with quick zooms, snappy cuts and comic reaction shots, then slips into tighter, shadowy framing when the mask appears in a dim corridor or a parked car. The score bounces between chirpy pop-rock and a pulsing synth undertow, so the tension arrives as a jolt rather than a long build. Its vibe is breezy, goofy and sweet-natured, with a teen-comedy snap that keeps the stakes feeling light. Violence exists and includes a few stabbings and blood on the floor, shown quickly and without lingering gore, so it reads as jokey thriller rather than harrowing horror. Pacing is brisk and rhythmically tidy, and the emotional throughline is a bond between sisters pulled into a looping, time-bending mess. This suits a fun, unpretentious night with friends, a nostalgic rewatch for anyone who came of age around 2003, or viewers who want a playful slasher-adjacent romp with a sci-fi twist and no heavy dread.
