The story
Turbo Kid is a BMX-powered pixel-art Metroidvania gore-fest based on the film of the same name.
What it’s like
Chunky pixel art in saturated neon pinks, teals and sunset oranges, with scanlines and a washed-out CRT softness that makes every wasteland look like a faded VHS tape. The soundtrack leans on bright synth-pop and chiptune-flavoured pulses that bounce along with the BMX's momentum, while the sound effects land with a wet, cartoonish crunch. Movement is the heart of the feel: you ride, jump and bash through interconnected ruins and sand-blasted sewers, unlocking new abilities that open older areas, so exploring feels like a loop of speed, grin and backtracking. The vibe is retro-rad and goofy, a sunny post-apocalyptic romp with a mischievous streak, best for an evening of playful, low-pressure exploration or a nostalgic weekend session with the 80s-kid aesthetic. Violence is frequent and deliberately over the top: gore sprays in bright red arcs, enemies burst apart comically, and blood is a constant visual gag rather than something grim. It suits players who love Metroidvania map-puzzling and movement-based combat and don't mind cartoon carnage dressed up in a fluorescent, synth-soaked parody of 1980s action.
