The story

A disgruntled ex-CIA operative, his assistant and their assembled group of terrorists seize a battleship with nuclear blackmail in mind. They've planned for every contingency but ignore the ship's cook, former Navy SEAL Casey Ryback—an error that could be fatal.

What it’s like

Hard-edged studio polish with saturated, glossy digital-era grading for 1992: steel-grey and navy palettes on the USS Missouri's corridors, cramped sodium-lit galleys, and hard fluorescent glare in the engine rooms, with bursts of orange fireball and tracer fire breaking the gloom. Camera work is brisk and functional, mostly conventional coverage with quick cuts, steady tracking through narrow passages, and crisp handheld moments during the fights. Sound is big and percussive: a thumping orchestral score, gunfire that cracks through the mix, and the constant clang of a warship at sea. The vibe is high-tension and pulpy, a race-against-the-clock nightmare with a dash of pure bravado, best for a loud Friday night or a sweaty weekend action binge. Pacing is relentless once the takeover begins, the action beats come thick and fast, and the emotional register stays broad: a lone, unflappable hero picking off an army of mercenaries while the clock ticks down. Intensity is high: frequent gunfire, explosions, brawling and martial-arts violence with some blood, and a steady threat of death, though little gore lingers. It suits viewers who want a muscular, unapologetic action ride with a clear-cut underdog hero and plenty of spectacle.
