The story
Vikram, an honest officer with the Lucknow police, is on a mission to find and eliminate gangster Vedha. However, when Vedha surrenders himself to the police and starts narrating stories to Vikram, it blurs the lines between good and evil. Vedha questions Vikram's righteousness while the latter believes he is fair and just. But is he?
What it’s like
Hard-edged Lucknow streets rendered in dusty ochre, sodium-yellow night and bruised blue shadow, with the camera often locked off or sliding in tight two-shots during the long interrogation-style exchanges that carry much of the film. The sound is a driving percussive score that surges through the chase and gunfights, then drops away into sparse room tone when two men simply talk, so the stillness feels as charged as the action. Its vibe is tense, moody and morally gritty, a cat-and-mouse thriller that rewards a late-night sit with the lights low. Pacing is brisk in the set pieces and deliberately slow in its dialogue scenes, and the emotional arc follows a rigid police officer whose certainty is slowly pulled apart by a criminal who seems to know him better than he knows himself. Violence is frequent and sharp, with shootouts, beatings and a steady undercurrent of threat, though it is more stylised than gory and the sexual content is minimal. Best for viewers who enjoy crime thrillers with sharp dialogue and ambiguous heroes, not for anyone wanting something gentle.
