The story
Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two with his own moral code, returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years, only to discover there's harder work to be done at home.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated Texas daylight dominates: sun-bleached highways, dusty pickups, and wide skies over Austin's suburbs and ranch country, lit with the clean, polished look of network action television. The camerawork is mostly steady medium shots and quick cuts during chases and standoffs, with the occasional wide landscape held a beat longer. The score leans on guitar-driven rock and a percussive pulse that swells under fights, and gunfire lands sharp and close in the mix. The vibe is earnest, old-fashioned lawman drama with a warm family core, suited to a Sunday evening, a background watch while tidying up after dinner, or a comfortable hour when you want a clear hero and a clear fight. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with a case most weeks and a slower thread about a man returning to his children and an unfinished reckoning with his past. Violence is regular and fairly direct: shootings, fistfights, and beatings, with some blood and tense hostage moments, but little graphic gore and no sexual content. Dread stays mild, with stakes that feel high in the moment and reliably resolve. It suits viewers who want a principled protagonist, Texas grit, and action with a family heart rather than bleak prestige drama.
