Who Am I

Directed by Baran bo Odar

  • thriller

The story

Benjamin, a young German computer whiz, is invited to join a subversive hacker group that wants to be noticed on the world's stage.

What it’s like

Cool blue-grey nights over Berlin, with the glow of laptop screens and office fluorescents doing most of the lighting, and sodium streetlamps picking out wet pavement. The camera stays close and restless, with quick cuts during hacking sequences that turn keyboards and code scrolling across monitors into the main action. The score is a pulsing electronic thrum that rises under tense moments and drops away to near silence in quieter ones. The vibe is paranoid and sleek, a cool-toned, nervy thriller about young people who feel invisible and are tempted by the idea of being seen. The pacing is brisk and escalating, and the arc follows a gifted, uncertain young man drawn into something bigger than he expected. Intensity is moderate: some sharp, brief violence and threatening confrontations, but no gore and little graphic content. It suits viewers who want a tense, stylish thriller for a late evening, especially those drawn to hacker stories and urban paranoia.
