The story

When his car breaks down, a quiet loner agrees to clean an abandoned family fun center in exchange for repairs. He soon finds himself waging war against possessed animatronic mascots while trapped inside Willy's Wonderland.

What it’s like

Saturated neon and sickly fluorescent glow wash over a decaying family fun center, all pinball-machine flashes, scuffed linoleum and pizza-parlor kitsch gone to dust. Camera work stays loose and playful, with wide slow pans across empty game floors and sudden kinetic cuts when the animatronics lurch into motion, and the score leans on pulsing synth and cheap carnival-organ melodies that sound like a music box left running in an empty building. Sparse dialogue, a largely mute lead and long stretches of quiet cleaning give way to bursts of stylized, cartoonish mayhem, with plenty of comic, heavily exaggerated violence, mechanical limbs snapping and gouts of stage blood, but little that lingers as real gore. The vibe is campy and absurd, closer to a midnight-movie nightmare than to straight dread, with a deadpan streak that keeps the menace goofy. It suits a late-night horror-comedy binge with friends, or a loud, silly watch when you want to laugh at a B-movie with a lot of committed style. Best for viewers who enjoy over-the-top action, unhinged set pieces and a sense of humor about their monsters, and not a fit for anyone seeking gentle or quiet viewing.
