The story

World of Warcraft: Legion ushers in an era of unprecedented conflict for the Alliance and the Horde as the Burning Legion’s crusade against creation enters a terrifying new stage. In this dire new chapter of the Warcraft saga, the demonic Burning Legion has returned, seeking to call forth their fallen leader—the dark titan Sargeras, Ravager of Worlds. As destruction rains across Azeroth, its heroes must seek salvation among the ruins of the Broken Isles, doomed center of ancient night elf civilization and birthplace of myths dating back to the world’s creation. In the face of hopeless odds, they must learn to master mighty Artifacts—legendary weapons that hold the potential to bring down the corrupted armies of the Legion—and strike an infernal pact with the dreaded Demon Hunters of the Illidari . . . accursed followers of the infamous Illidan the Betrayer.

What it’s like

Saturated, painterly fantasy with a constant undertow of sickly green fel glow: ruined night elf spires silhouetted against violet dusk, lush forest canopies bleeding into blighted wastes, and artifact weapons that gleam with warm gold light in dark caverns. The score swells with full orchestra and choir during big moments and drops to soft strings and wind in quieter zones, and the hub towns hum with ambient chatter and lantern light. Combat is busy and flashy, with bright spell effects, rhythmic ability rotations and stylized, bloodless clashes against demons, so the violence reads as spectacle rather than gore, with only moderate dread in the corrupted zones. Pacing alternates between long, meandering quest wandering and sharp, tense raid encounters that demand focus and teamwork. Its emotional register is earnest, heroic and a little melancholy, with arcs about reluctant allies, sacrifice and an uneasy alliance with a hated outcast. It suits long evening sessions, a comfort return to an old world, or time spent with friends on voice chat, and it's made for players who love epic scale, lore-heavy journeys and the rush of a hard-won victory.
