The story
Super Mario Advance 3 is a GBA remake for the SNES with the dinosaur Yoshi and his friends as main characters carrying Baby Mario and Luigi on their back. Each game of the series includes additionally the arcade-classic "Mario Bros" which can be played in multiplayer via link cable.
What it’s like
Crayon-textured backdrops in wax and colored-pencil strokes sit beneath bright, saturated pastels, with sunny meadows, misty jungles, and snowy peaks layered in flat, wobbly parallax. The whole world has the handmade charm of a child's storybook. The music is bouncy and whimsical, punctuated by cartoonish sound effects and the plaintive wail of a baby who cries whenever he's in danger. The pace is unhurried: each stage is a playground to wander, with hidden flowers, bonus minigames, and routes that loop lazily rather than sprinting toward a goal. Intensity is very low. Enemies are bounced on, swallowed, or pelted with eggs, and failure brings a comical wail rather than menace or gore. The tone is warm, playful, and quietly sweet, with a faint flutter of nervousness when the baby is threatened. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a comfort replay on a handheld, or a gentle challenge for anyone wanting a cheerful platformer without violence or dread. Players who love whimsical, handmade worlds and curious exploration will find it especially inviting, and the included link-cable Mario Bros. match offers an easy shared round for two.
