The story

After arguing with his girlfriend, Ali, Tyler lands in the arms of sexy new girl, Holly. The next morning, he finds that not only does Ali agree to take him back, but Holly is a new student at their school and is dead set on her new man.

What it’s like

Bright, glossy digital images of suburban high-school hallways, bedrooms lit by phone screens, and sun-washed driveways give this teen romance-thriller a polished, slightly overexposed feel, with a pop-leaning score that keeps the pulse up. The mood is breezy and melodramatic at first, then tightens into jittery unease as a love triangle turns possessive. Scenes move quickly, with frequent cuts and close two-shots that hold on faces during confrontations. The emotional register swings between flirtatious and anxious, and the arc follows a confused boy caught between two girls who want very different things from him. Romantic and sexual content is present but mostly suggestive; the menace comes from obsession, manipulation and whispered tension rather than gore, and the violence that does occur is sudden rather than graphic. It suits a late-night, half-distracted watch on a streaming queue, or a rewatch for anyone who enjoys guilty-pleasure drama. It is for viewers who want a fast, twisty, over-the-top high-school thriller with a sultry edge and little patience for slow realism.
