The story
High school student Polina is saved from bullying at her new school and makes a deal with the main bully Bars: he must pretend to be her boyfriend and protect her, and she must do everything he says. During this game, the couple develops real feelings, but her family and classmates have reasons to separate the lovers.
What it’s like
Teen romance with a bruised, emotional edge, adapted from a novel, so expect a character-led pace that lingers on inner feeling more than set pieces. Its mood is tender and tense in turn: a warm, hopeful pull between two young people sits against the chill of school-corridor cruelty and the pressure of families and classmates who want them apart. The early stretches carry real unease from bullying, with confrontation that stays interpersonal rather than physical, so the intensity lands as humiliation and emotional hurt rather than gore or graphic violence. Romance is present but restrained, built on glances, small acts of protection, and conversations that grow more honest as the story goes on. The rhythm is steady and dramatic, with its emotional peaks arriving in quieter scenes rather than spectacle. It suits an evening alone when you want something absorbing and a little heartbreaking, and it fits viewers who enjoy coming-of-age dramas where tenderness and hurt share the same frame, and who are happy with an ending that doesn't promise easy comfort.
