The story

While on the verge of retirement, skater Yuri Katsuki meets Yuri Plisetsky and Victor Nikiforov, two skaters who rekindle his competitive fire.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated animation with glossy ice that reflects every spotlight, and skating routines rendered as flowing, almost dancelike sequences set to pop and classical arrangements of the programs. The palette swings between sunny seaside Hasetsu, warm and softly lit with low sun through bathhouse windows, and the cold blue-white arenas of international competition, where the camera lingers on fast spins and the hush before a routine. Hand-drawn in a clean modern anime style, with expressive comic beats that puncture the tenderness. The vibe is warm, earnest and buoyant, with comedic lightness riding over real anxiety about failure and aging out of a sport, and it suits a weekend binge, a comfort rewatch, or something to put on when you want uplift. Pacing is episodic and bouncy, building toward big competitive set pieces. Emotionally it follows a grieving, self-doubting skater regaining his nerve and a rival-mentor pairing that slowly opens up. Intensity is low: no violence, a little mild crude humour, some romantic tension and kissing with suggestive undertones but no explicit content, and occasional sad moments. Made for viewers who love sports stories, figure skating, and tender, funny queer romance.
